10 Tips To Reduce Your Website’s “Bounce” Rate

traffic, teamwork, people, world, web, wwwVisitors are crucial to the success of any website, especially that of an Internet marketer. Success not only depends on the number of targeted visitors but by how long they stay as well. Those visitors must be provided with what they are looking for, because the longer they stay, the greater the chance of their visit being converted into sales.

In other words, you want to reduce the bounce rate of your blog or website, or the number of visitors who “bounce” away from your site after viewing only one page. Fortunately, there are several ways to achieve this.

1. Watch the load time of your website.

If it takes too long to load, the visitor may simply click away. Web surfers have very short attention spans. Make sure that all your pages–especially the home page–load quickly; otherwise, your visitors may leave in frustration.

2. Make a good first impression.

It has been shown that most visitors spend just 5-7 seconds on their visit to a typical website. That’s right, seconds! You need to capture your visitors’ attention during this very short timeframe, and this is best done through an attractive and clear site layout and relevant graphics.

Don’t mislead your visitors with the title of any of your pages or with the articles thereon. You want your visitor to stick around and actually read what you have to say.

3. Make sure your site is well-organized and has a clear navigation system so that your visitors know where to go to find the information they are looking for.

Avoid confusing them. After all, they likely came to your site looking for specific information, so make it easy for them to find it. If they have a satisfying experience on your site, they are more likely to come again.

4. Remember that content is king.

You should strive to make sure that your content is excellent, targeted to the theme of your site and updated regularly. Give your visitors unique information and useful resources.

Posting new articles and content regularly to your site will display your expertise. Make sure that your writings meet a high standard of quality and are free from spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. If your visitors like what they see and read, they will be more likely to explore further.

5. Maintain a mailing list and offer a freebie on your website to entice visitors to join it.

People who join a mailing list are far more likely to visit a site again. Some vendors of affiliate products related to your site’s topic may even provide a branded freebie such as an e-book that you can use as an enticement and from which you can make a commission if someone purchases through your links.

6. Coupons and special promotions can grab the attention of your visitors, keep them on your site longer, and encourage them to come back again.

7. Polls, surveys and quizzes

These can be a good way of encouraging visitor interaction and encouraging them to stay longer on your website. However, keep in mind that this is no substitute for offering quality content.

8. Place YouTube videos on your website.

These should be related to the theme of your site. YouTube makes it easy to embed videos that are hosted on the YouTube server but are displayed on your site.  You might want to avoid embedding videos that promote someone else’s site, however.

If you are adventurous, you can use software like Apple’s iMovie to create your own videos to post to YouTube that you can then embed on your own site or blog.

9. Make use of images and graphics.

What is more appealing and interesting to a site visitor: a long page of gray text or an article that is punctuated by appealing and relevant graphics and broken up with headings and subheadings or a numbered list?

10. Don’t overlook the importance of a professional appearance for your blog or website.

You should put some thought into every aspect of this, including content, design and display ads, all with an eye towards increasing the visitor appeal and keeping them longer.

Remember that if you succeed in convincing your visitors to stay longer on your website, you’ll also have a better chance of persuading them to become your customers. To achieve the maximum success in online marketing, work on keeping your visitors on your site as long as possible.
